Masticated area displaying crushed and shredded forest fuels
Completed mastication in one portion of Musser Hill FMZ Stage II, 2007.

Benefits from this project include hazardous fuels reduction and community watershed protection. Fuel treatments consist of mastication, manual thinning, and pile burning. Project planning and funding was through collaboration with the Trinity County Resource Advisory Committee and Fire Safe Council. This FMZ is strategically located along a ridge top road and when all stages are complete it will total approximately 564 acres; have a length of 4 miles and a width of 1200 feet.

Accomplishments To Date

Project implementation began in 2004 with stage I, and stage II will be completed in 2008, totaling approximately 300 acres. The completion date for stage IV (final) is estimated for 2010, funds pending. In the past, money from Title II (Secure Rural School and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000) funding was granted by the Trinity County Resource Advisory Committee, which has since been cut.
