Maureen Brooks Biography
Maureen Brooks is the Community Fire Planner on the Fire and Aviation Staff for the Northeastern Area of the USDA Forest Service State and Private Forestry. In her role, she provides technical assistance to the twenty Northeastern Area States in the areas of fire planning, risk assessment, wildland urban interface, Firewise programming, and fire prevention, as well as grant monitoring for six states.
She currently serves as the communications group chair for the Northeastern Regional Strategy Committee. She also serves as the staff specialist for the Healthy Forest Restoration Act, the Secure Rural Schools and Self Determination Act, and staff liaison for the Middle Atlantic Forest Fire Protection Compact.
Prior to joining the USDA Forest Service, Maureen worked for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Service. In her 20 years there, she worked as a Forest Ranger, Education and Fire Prevention Specialist, and Fire Training and Prevention Officer.
She holds an Associate in Arts degree in Forest Technology from Allegany College of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Towson University. In her spare time Maureen enjoys gardening, taking care of barnyard animals, and volunteering as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 143.
